## Questions and limits

### What is purchasing power parity pricing?

Purchasing power parity accounts for differences in price levels between economies, as the [World Bank explains](https://www.worldbank.org/en/programs/icp/faq). Regional product pricing uses country-level signals to suggest different prices in different markets. IndiePPP blends consumption price levels, observed subscription prices, and income where market signals are missing. The suggestion is a starting point, not proof that a product costs everyone the same effort or that a person can afford it.

### How does IndiePPP calculate the price for each country?

Each economy gets a ratio against the United States, which is 1. The ratio is a weighted geometric mean of three signals: what Apple Music charges there against Apple's own equivalent of the US price, the World Bank price level for private consumption, and what Netflix charges there at half weight, because Netflix prices whole regions in coarse tiers. Where no market signal reaches an economy, income per person against the US, raised to the power 0.55, stands in.

Each row shows which signals decided it and their values, so you can see whether a price rests on three market readings or on income alone. Netflix never decides a country by itself. Where one signal sits more than 1.8 times away from the others, it is dropped for that row, and the row's notes say so.

### What does the ratio in the table mean?

A ratio of 0.45 means the economy sits at 45 percent of the US price, so a 29 dollar base becomes 13.05 dollars. A ratio above 1 means the economy is dearer than the United States. The price column is that base times the ratio, in US dollars, not a quote in the local currency. You can set optional minimum and maximum multipliers in the result; empty sides are uncapped, and the browser applies valid bounds to the raw answer without asking the checker again.

### How do I use PPP prices in my own product?

Set optional minimum and maximum multipliers, then choose a rounding rule on the page, whole dollars, an ending in .99 or .95, or the nearest 5 or 10 dollars. The browser clamps the raw answer to valid bounds, rounds to cents, and keeps the chosen ending or step inside those bounds, so a bound can override it. Filter by evidence basis to review rows built from the same signals. Copy the shown rows into a spreadsheet or download the CSV with every economy, raw evidence, index dates, source links, licenses, and applied values, then enter the prices you choose into your payment provider's per-country price list. The amount is still a US dollar equivalent; the local currency figure, tax, and exchange rate are yours to set.

### Does a PPP price tell me what people there can pay?

No. The ratio blends what two subscription services charge and what consumption costs in that economy. It says nothing about any person's income, your costs, your competitors, or how many buyers a market holds. A row built from income alone is a weaker guess than one built from three market readings, and a note marks a volatile currency that needs a fresh look when you apply the price.

The result names the day the index was built, and the Apple Music and Netflix readings carry their own read dates, because the two services reprice a country now and then. Treat the table as a starting point for a price list, not as a verdict on a market, and read the row's notes before you apply a price.
